Wow, were does the time go?

Just seems like it was New Years 2009 and here we are for the next one.  I think the holiday season is a great time of year for reflection on what occurred in the last 365 days of your life.  I am not one to live in the past at all, but to achieve goals in 2010 I think is it necessary to take a look back and analyse.

So here is what I want you to do for yourself:

1. Get a notepad and pen and write down the things/actions that caused you to have beneficial feelings come into your life.  This is simply taking an inventory.  In other words, what were the things that caused you to feel excitement, passion, energy, laughter, love, satisfaction and any other positive sensations.

Write them down.

2. Now ask yourself what caused you to obtain those feelings?  For me, it was helping others professionally & personally.  It was being a good friend.  It was me inspiring someone when they were down.  It was me loosing 10 pounds.  It was me being associated with positive ambitious people.

As we recognize the things/actions that brought us these positive feelings in 2009, we are going to focus on doing more of those actions in 2010.  There is an old saying I live buy, and that is “If we continue to do what we have always done, we will continue to get what we have always gotten”.

3. Physically write down some realistic goals for 2010.  Don’t just come up with them in your mind, write them down and put them on your wall.  Your odds actually increase to achieve goals if you physically do this.  As you look at these written goals each day, a mental process will be occurring in the background that  instigates the appropriates actions necessary to obtain them.  It’s a wonderfully simple process.

4. Be in the “NOW”.  The past is gone and unchangeable, the future has not occurred yet, so all we have is right now.  I know so many people who lay awake at night dwelling on that lost relationship, that failed business venture, that friend that did them wrong, etc., etc.. etc.  Yes learn from your mistakes and make the most out of each minute, hour, day.  I recommend a great book called The Power Of Now by Eckhart Toll that explains this in more detail.

5. We have all had some very challenging/dark times in our lives.  Personally, 2009 contained some very emotional and catastrophic things that challenged me a human being.  But I can say that in those dark times, I learned some valuable lessons I would have never discovered had I not suffered a bit.  The lessons I learned have made me a much stronger person and I am thankful.  So just remember that struggles make us stronger and the “light at the end of the tunnel” is usually discovered in our darkest hour.  So hang in there and never quit.
